The Bowie knife is used to describe a wide range of hunting knives, although in common usage the term refers to any large sheath knife with a crossguard and a clip point.  The knife pattern is still popular with collectors and hunters. Most modern versions of the Bowie knife a blade length between 6 and 12 inches, with a relatively broad blade with thick steel. The Bowie knife's design makes it the perfect hunting knife for skinning or butchering game.
